§ Colonel ASHLEYAs its shown in Appendices 1 and 16 of the Annual Report on the Administration of the Road 2069 Fund for the year 1927–28, the total amount of the grants made from the Road Fund during that year in respect of the maintenance of scheduled unclassified roads was £1,661,076, while the total mileage of such roads was 55,053 miles. On the basis of these figures the average amount of grant made for maintenance works on these roads was about £30 per mile.
