HC Deb 20 March 1929 vol 226 c1716
6. Sir WILLIAM DAVISON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he has any information as to whether any provision is contemplated by the Soviet Government for providing compensation for British nationals whose oil wells in Russia were appropriated without any compensation being paid?

Sir A. CHAMBERLAIN

No, Sir. I have no information on this subject.

Sir W. DAVISON

Does the right hon. Gentleman realise the enormous profits that are now being made by the Soviet Government as a result of admission to the combine; and does he not think, in view of the fact that they have paid nothing for the oil wells from which they are selling, that some action should be taken in the matter?

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware of the large profits which are being made by the British firms in the combine, indirectly out of Russian oil; and can nothing be done to compensate those unfortunate British subjects who lost their property?

Sir W. DAVISON

Can nothing be done to exclude this oil from the country until proper compensation has been paid?
