HC Deb 20 March 1929 vol 226 c1722
18. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Minister of Labour if the Government has any new plans for reducing unemployment?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

The policy of the Government in this matter, which they believe to be that best adapted for securing a permanent reduction in unemployment, has been fully explained in this House on a number of occasions.

Mr. THURTLE

May I take it that the Government have nothing at all to add to what they have said already?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

Yes, the reduction figure of 118,000 will be increased in subsequent weeks.

Lord APSLEY

Are not the Government looking forward to a renewed period of five years of office?
