§ 6. Mr. R. MORRISONasked the Home Secretary whether the recent conference on the question of forming a special corps of traffic police arrived at any decision; and whether he can now make a statement on the matter?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSI have the proceedings of the conference under my consideration. I am not yet in a position to make any full statement on the subject.
§ Mr. MORRISONIn view of the great interest in this question, does the right hon. Gentleman anticipate being able to make a public statement on the matter soon?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSNo, not in the very near future. The proposals which I have seen in the Press would lead to a very considerable alteration in the police force, and I think I may 1234 say that I do not see any concurrence in the conference upon any such large scheme.
§ Mr. HAYESCannot the right hon. Gentleman decide whether he should not make some observations on this question to the Royal Commission?
§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSSurely, they have had evidence on this point.
