HC Deb 14 March 1929 vol 226 cc1259-60
36. Mr. R. RICHARDSON

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that a Miss Parkes, of Coddington, Newark, who had been attended for a few days by a Dr. Harris, was on 13th August, 1928, certified by him on account of delirium with a temperature of 104 degrees and sent, without her father's knowledge, to Radcliffe Asylum; that on her arrival there she was diagnosed by two doctors as suffering from scarlet fever, the rash being in evidence, and had to remain there till 10th September; that the relieving officer was away at the time and his clerk acted for him; that the guardians have sent in a bill to the father amounting to over £8; and, in view of the stigma attaching to her certification and the negligence displayed, will he cause an inquiry to be made into the case?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

My attention has not been called to this case, but I will make inquiries.
