§ 58. Mr. RAMSDENasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what Colonial dependencies in East and West Africa are sending representatives to the Pan-African Veterinary and Agricultural Research Conference to be held in South Africa this summer; and whether any experts are being sent from England to this Conference on behalf of the Government or the Empire Marketing Board?
§ Mr. AMERYIt is hoped that representatives will attend the Conference on behalf of the Governments of Nigeria, Uganda, Tanganyika Territory, Nyasaland and Northern Rhodesia, and that representatives of the East African Agricultural Research Station at Amani will also be present. I have not yet heard whether the Government of Kenya will be represented. I regret that it will not be possible for the Colonial Office to be directly represented at the Conference, as suggested by His Majesty's Government in the Union of South Africa, but I hope that representatives of the Empire Marketing Board will attend, in addition to representatives of Agricultural and Veterinary Institutions in the United Kingdom. I understand that arrangements are being made for Sir David Hall, Chief Scientific Adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and Dr. W. H. Andrews, Director of the Ministry's Veterinary Laboratory, to be present at the Conference.
