HC Deb 13 March 1929 vol 226 cc1117-8
32. Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE (for Mr. WARDLAW-MILNE)

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has received any complaint that the practice of signing on at Employment Exchanges in the morning results in many unemployed losing the chance of getting work and in additional cost to the State; and whether he will consider the question of allowing unemployed persons to sign the register in the afternoon?

Mr. BETTERTON

Large numbers of claimants already sign in the afternoon, and special arrangements are always made when good cause is shown.
