HC Deb 07 March 1929 vol 226 cc534-5
34. Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Health whether any communication has passed between his Department and the Kent local authorities with reference to the sanitary conditions that exist during the hop-picking season; and will he give particulars of replies that have been received and of the improvements that are suggested for this coming year?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Yes, Sir. In three instances last year these communications led to the adoption of an improved code of bylaws. In other cases the object of the correspondence was to draw the attention of the authorities to matters observed in the course of inspection. The terms of a further general communication to the authorities are receiving my consideration.

Mr. DAY

Will the right hon. Gentleman say how many of the authorities have replied to this communication?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

If the hon. Member will put down a question, I will give him an answer.
