§ Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKSI have been asked to reply to this question. The Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies informs me that the amount advanced in 1927 was £55,886,903, as compared with £40,584,606 in 1924. The figures for 1928 are not yet available.
