75. Mr. KELLY

asked the Minister of Labour the number of unemployed on the Island of Harris in October and November, 1927 and 1928, respectively?

Mr. BETTERTON

There is no local office of the Ministry of Labour in Harris, and the only figures available relate to persons on the registers of the Employment Exchange at Stornoway. I will circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT a statement giving such figures for the periods referred to.

Can the hon. Gentleman say what efforts, if any, are being made by his officers to place these men in employment?

Mr. BETTERTON

The hon. Member will be interested to know that an analysis that we made last October showed that there were no unemployed men in Harris at all.
