HC Deb 04 March 1929 vol 226 cc15-6
47. Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Prime Minister whether he has communicated through the usual channels to ascertain whether the refusal still holds good of one of the political parties in 1924 to take part in a three-party conference to devise means of helping agriculture?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr Baldwin)

No attempt was made to hold a conference of political parties in 1924. Since then the agricultural policies of the other political parties have been published and include proposals fundamentally opposed to the principles of the Conservative party, so that there is little hope of a successful outcome from a three-party conference. No steps have therefore, been taken to summon such a meeting.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

When did the Conservative party have principles in this matter, or in any matter?
