HC Deb 04 March 1929 vol 226 c14
28. Mr. HURD

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will cause inquiry to be made for the information of the Committee on the Channel Tunnel project as to the probable effect on British market gardening, small holdings, and farming of the improved facilities which such a tunnel would provide for competing importations of foodstuffs?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Guinness)

Until the charges for conveyance of merchandise through the proposed Channel tunnel are announced, it would be difficult to form any reliable estimate as to how the facilities to be offered may compare with existing means of transporting produce to this country.
