asked the Under- Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs how many men went to Canada last year under the Canadian harvesting scheme; how many have returned to this country; and whether it is his intention to put that scheme into operation this year?

Mr. PONSONBY

The number of men who went to Canada as harvesters last year was 8,449, and the number who returned to this country was 6,444, leaving 2,005 who remained in Canada. It is not proposed to put any scheme of this kind into operation this season.
