§ 11. Mr. MANDERasked the Lord Privy Seal whether he will consider the advisability of applying to Parliament for special emergency powers in order to enable him to obtain land, etc., in the shortest possible time, so that schemes for national development may be pressed forward with all expedition?
Mr. THOMASAs the hon. Member is aware there are already considerable powers under the Unemployment (Relief Works) Act, 1920, and other Statutes. I am fully alive to the necessity in present circumstances of facilitating the procedure to enable schemes of development 1052 to be pressed forward. The matter is being examined and I should not hesitate to ask Parliament for further powers in the matter if necessary.
