HC Deb 22 July 1929 vol 230 cc885-8
14. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether His Majesty's Government is in any way committed for or against the proposed committee of verification and conciliation which the French Government demand in connection with the evacuation of the Rhineland?

Mr. GILLETT

No such general representations are in contemplation, but representations respecting the Customs treatment of goods in which this country is specially interested will continue to be addressed to foreign countries whenever it appears desirable to do so.

Mr. HANNON

Are we to assume that the policy of the Government is to make our market more and more available for foreign commodities while the other markets of the world are being closed against us?
