HC Deb 22 July 1929 vol 230 cc882-3
10. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the British Legation in China have made representations to the British Government during the year 1928, drawing the attention of the British Government to the disregard of the arms embargo; and whether his Department has taken any action?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Arthur Henderson)

No representations were received during 1928 nor action taken beyond that referred to in the reply returned to my hon. Friend on 13th June of last year. I would add that, in view of the changed situation consequent on the conclusion of treaties with and the recognition of the National Government, the Arms Embargo Agreement was, by a unanimous agreement of the Diplomatic Body in Peking, cancelled as from 26th April last, on which date this decision was formally communicated to the Chinese Minister for Foreign Affairs.
