HC Deb 17 July 1929 vol 230 cc422-3
49. Mr. DAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can now make a statement upon the Report received by his Department from the Governor of Hong Kong on the question of the abolition of the system of mui tsai?

Mr. LUNN

I am not yet in a position to make a statement as my Noble Friend has not yet completed his consideration of this problem, but a full statement will be made as soon as possible.

Mr. DAY

Is my hon. Friend aware that this statement is very long overdue, and cannot he give the House a date when a statement can be made?

Mr. LUNN

I will inform the hon. Member as soon as possible when I am able to make a definite statement upon the Report.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Would it be possible to have the Report from the Governor of Hong Kong laid on the Table of the House before publishing it?

Mr. LUNN

I will consider that suggestion.
