HC Deb 16 July 1929 vol 230 cc222-3
70. Sir ROBERT HAMILTON

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the present condition of the Highlands and Islands (Medical Services) Fund; whether the beneficial services assisted by the Fund are being in any way curtailed; and whether steps are being taken to maintain the Fund on a sound financial basis?

Mr. W. ADAMSON

The War-time accumulations in the Fund will be exhausted within the next few months and the present statutory income of the Fund will require to be supplemented in order that the current year's liabilities may be met. While there has been no curtailment of established services assisted from the Fund and certain expansions have been sanctioned from year to year, other desirable developments have been delayed pending reconstitution of the Fund. I have the whole position under consideration and hope to be able to submit proposals to the House on an early date.
