HC Deb 15 July 1929 vol 230 c38
70. Captain CROOKSHANK

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he is aware that on the morning of the King's return to London the price of chairs in Hyde Park in the vicinity of the route was raised to 6d.; whether this was done with his consent; and, if so, on what grounds?

Mr. LANSBURY

It has been the custom in the past on such occasions to allow the contractor to place chairs along the line of route for use as stands, and to make an extra charge for these chairs on the understanding that the persons hiring them could use them as stands. This course was followed in the present instance.
