HC Deb 15 July 1929 vol 230 c26
79. Commander WILLIAMS

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the cause of the serious decline in the export of grindstones to the United States of America in 1928?

Mr. W. R. SMITH

I am unable to say what was the particular cause of the decrease in exports of grindstones from this country to the United States in 1923. Those exports have been decreasing since 1924, and the total imports of grindstones entered for consumption in the United States have also decreased markedly in the same period. It is known that the use of artificial abrasives has been increasing.
