HC Deb 31 January 1929 vol 224 c1137
55. Mr. WESTWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in allocating the grant for education to the respective counties and burghs, the deductions per £ on valuation, which takes place under existing Minutes of the Education Department, will be on gross valuation or on valuation after the derating of the various properties is given effect to?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The terms of the Minute under which grants are made to education authorities must be open to reconsideration from time to time, but, as at present advised. I see no reason for any immediate alteration in the basis on which the reference to valuation in the current Minute rests.

Mr. WESTWOOD

Can I have an answer to the second part of the question?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The answer is that de-rating would not affect this Minute.
