§ 55. Mr. WESTWOODasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in allocating the grant for education to the respective counties and burghs, the deductions per £ on valuation, which takes place under existing Minutes of the Education Department, will be on gross valuation or on valuation after the derating of the various properties is given effect to?
§ Sir J. GILMOURThe terms of the Minute under which grants are made to education authorities must be open to reconsideration from time to time, but, as at present advised. I see no reason for any immediate alteration in the basis on which the reference to valuation in the current Minute rests.
§ Mr. WESTWOODCan I have an answer to the second part of the question?
§ Sir J. GILMOURThe answer is that de-rating would not affect this Minute.
