Colonel Sir ARTHUR HOLBROOKasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that motor road accidents have increased by 500 per cent. in the last 10 years; that the primary cause of these accidents is neglect to carry out the recognised rules of the road; and whether he will consider the adoption of some method to distinguish main roads from by-roads for the guidance of motorists and the introduction of legislation to punish those who disobey recognised rules?
§ Colonel ASHLEYI have under cor-sideration at the present time the question of the desirability of indicating the relative importance of roads at road junctions. If any legislative provisions to deal with the matter appear to be desirable, I shall avail myself of the first appropriate occasion for introducing them.
