HC Deb 29 January 1929 vol 224 cc739-40
5. Mr. D. GRENFELL

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether there is any restriction on the use of

British Government and the amount which has been credited to the German and other nationals by the Tribunal?

Sir P. CUNLIFFE-LISTER

I am not quite sure that I follow the question. Under the Treaty we have to credit to Germany the debts which are agreed to be due, or, in case of dispute, are found by the Tribunal to be due, to their nationals; and, also under the Treaty, we have to make good any bad debts which we cannot recover from our nationals. If a debt is partly bad and parly good, then what the hon. Member says applies.
