HC Deb 24 January 1929 vol 224 c307
9. Sir HARRY BRITTAIN

asked the Home Secretary whether he can give the number of prosecutions under the Protection of Animals Act, 1914, for cruelty in connection with prolonged chaining of dogs, and the number of convictions?

sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I regret that I am unable to find any such information, but perhaps any hon. Friend would help me with references.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

May I assure the right hon. Gentleman that great cruelty is often caused by this practice—[HON. MEMBERS: "Speech"!]

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

I cannot find any cases. My hon. Friend asked me to give the number of prosecutions. I cannot find any up to the present. If he can give me a clue as to any which have taken place, I may be able to obtain some information. At present, I can find none.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

I will do my best to help the right hon. Gentleman.
