HC Deb 24 January 1929 vol 224 cc341-2
Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he has any information about the reported bombing of Indian troops by an aeroplane near the Afghan frontier?

Earl WINTERTON

I have been asked to reply. I deeply regret to have to state that the accident referred to in the hon. and gallant Member's question has taken place, and that three Indian officers and 10 Indian troopers, with 16 horses, have been reported killed, and 12 troopers wounded. The whole unfortunate incident will be fully investigated, and I am not in a position to make any further statement at present.

Lieut-Commander KENWORTHY

Is the Noble Lord able to say whether the aeroplane concerned was on active service or engaged in practice?

Earl WINTERTON

I understand that the aeroplane in question was engaged in practice, but I think it would be unfair to all concerned for me to make any statement until a full report has been received.
