asked the President of the Board of Education the number of full-time teachers in the ele- mentary schools on 31st March, 1928; how many were trained teachers; and how many were uncertificated and supplementary?

The total number of teachers employed in, or in connection with, public elementary schools maintained by local authorities on the 31st March, 1928, was 167,948. Included in this figure were 122,664 certificated teachers (of whom 95,906 were college trained), 32,775 uncertificated teachers and 8,303 supplementary teachers.
