HC Deb 28 February 1929 vol 225 c2188
64. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Secretary of State for Air what progress with the proposed air services to Karachi and the Cape of Good Hope, respectively, has been made; and when the first complete service will be inaugurated?

The SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Samuel Hoare)

The air service to Karachi is due to start about 1st April next, and all the necessary steps have been or are being taken to that end. As regards the service to the Gape, the proposals to which I referred in my reply to my Noble Friend the Member for Shrewsbury (Viscount Sandon) on 13th February, are now being examined at the Air Ministry, and I hope to be in a position to make a further statement on the subject in the course of the Debate on Air Estimates.

Lieut. - Commander KENWORTHY

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether on 1st April the last part of the journey will be made from Basra to Karachi? Will the aerodromes be ready then?

Sir S. HOARE

Yes, Sir, I certainly hope they will be ready.
