HC Deb 27 February 1929 vol 225 cc1946-7
24. Mr. CECIL WILSON

asked the Minister of Labour the number of male and female juveniles, respectively, upon the register, the number unemployed, and the number who have been refused benefit in consequence of their not having 30 contributions within two years?

Sir A. STEEL-MAITLAND

At 11th February, 1929, there were 40,520 boys and 38,367 girls aged 17 or under on the registers of Employment Exchanges and Juvenile Employment Bureaux in Great Britain; no other statistics of unemployment among boys and girls are available. During the period 19th April, 1928, to 11th February, 1929, 2,727 claims to benefit made by insured boys and 1,816 claims made by insured girls were disallowed on the ground that less than 30 contributions had been paid during the previous two years. These figures relate to claims made and not necessarily to separate individuals.
