HC Deb 18 February 1929 vol 225 c763
17. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he can state the number of persons who have migrated to Canada with State assistance during the month of January of this year?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I have been asked to reply to this question. Five hundred and fifty-two persons, who left for Canada during January, received assisted passages under the Empire Settlement Act. The number of persons who paid the new £10 ocean rate will not be known for some weeks.

Mr. DAY

Has the right hon. Gentleman received any complaints from any of these migrants that they are not getting satisfaction?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I have not heard of any complaints.
