Major GLYNasked the Minister of Transport whether he intends to take any steps, pending the passing of the Road Traffic Bill, so as to ensure that there shall be compulsory and periodic inspection of public service vehicles, in order that the public may be protected and the number of serious accidents due to inferior brake power or other mechanical defects reduced; and whether, if the Ministry of Transport has no such powers, the local authorities, whose business it is to issue licences, may be empowered to make such inspection as a 212 condition of renewing the licence for a period longer than three months?
