HC Deb 11 February 1929 vol 225 c25
33. Mr. DAY

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the many complaints his Department has received regarding the quality of bread, which contains a large proportion of water content, he will consider the introduction of legislation which will compel milllers to sell flour to bakers free from adulteration?

Sir K. WOOD

I have been asked to reply. This matter is already dealt with by Bread Acts and the Food and Drugs (Adulteration) Act, and my right hen Friend does not at present contemplate the introduction of further legislation on the subject.

Mr. HURD

Does my right hon. Friend regard water as an adulteration?

Sir K. WOOD

Perhaps my hon. Friend would put that question down.

Sir WILLIAM LANE MITCHELL

Is there any record anywhere of any adulteration in this way?

Sir K. WOOD

I should like to see that question on paper.
