HC Deb 05 February 1929 vol 224 cc1584-5
40. Sir H. BRITTAIN

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been called to a proposal to make a special London-to-Brighton motorway; and whether he can supply any information as to the use of special motorways in other countries?

Colonel ASHLEY

I am aware of the proposal for the construction of a motor way between London and Brighton. While I have some particulars of certain motorways abroad, I doubt whether the circumstances are sufficiently analogous to enable any useful deductions to be drawn from these few examples.

Mr. BROAD

Will the Minister of Transport and the Government consider the advisability of giving a monopoly of all the roadways of the country to Lord Ashfield and his friends?

Mr. KIRKWOOD

I think we ought to get an answer to that supplementary question. It is a most intelligent supplementary question.
