asked the Under-Secretary of State for India what sections of the railways in India origin- ally built as metre-gauge have been converted to broad-gauge; whether the Government of India has any intention of carrying out further conversion in the future; and whether it is intended to build a metre-gauge connection between the Northern and Southern metre-gauge systems?

My Noble Friend has not sufficient information to enable an answer to be given to my hon. Friend's question but he will obtain it from the Government of India.

In that answer does the Noble Lord mean that he will also obtain from the Government of India a definition of what their policy is to be?
