22. Mr. WEST RUSSELL

asked the Lord Privy Seal how many men have been employed in the area of the Tyneside local authorities on work schemes sanctioned and assisted financially by his Department and other Government Departments since June last?

Mr. THOMAS

I am not able to give this information at the moment, but I will communicate it to the hon. Member in the course of a few days.

24. Mr. SHIELD

asked the Lord Privy Seal if, having regard to the great distress prevailing in Newburn-on-Tyne, due to the closing of the steel works, he will use his good offices to attract other industries to a district with so many natural advantages for industrial purposes?

Mr. THOMAS

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave on the 26th November to the right hon. Gentleman the Member for West Woolwich (Sir K. Wood) on the subject of attracting industry into the distressed areas. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of that reply
