HC Deb 17 December 1929 vol 233 c1199
52. Mr. FOOT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the number of years purchase adopted in the commutation of the perpetual pensions abolished in the course of the past 10 years?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

The only transactions of this character were in 1924 and 1925 and were both on the basis of 21 years' purchase.

Mr. FOOT

Is the right hon. Gentleman prepared to adopt the same practice as to the remaining perpetual pension—the same basis of settlement?

Mr. SNOWDEN

If application be made for the commutation of this pension, I can assure the hon. Member—who has for so many years taken a keen interest in this matter—that we will get the best terms possible.
