HC Deb 11 December 1929 vol 233 c458
52. Mr. LESLIE BOYCE (for Mr. HANNON)

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has recently received from the Severn Commission and other bodies representations for the improvement of the navigation on the River Severn; and what action he proposes to take in the matter?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

I have recently been in communication with the Severn Commissioners, and explained to them the conditions under which Government financial assistance might be given for the purpose of improving the navigation, and have pointed out to them that if the undertaking is to be maintained it would appear to be necessary that the various local interests concerned should themselves take steps to improve the present financial position of the undertaking. I understand that the Commissioners are considering the desirability of conferring with the interested parties.
