HC Deb 11 December 1929 vol 233 c449
39. Sir N. GRATTAN-DOYLE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether the Empire Marketing Board is responsible for the showing in this country of the film, "Ireland's Rough-hewn Destiny"; and by whom the film was produced and upon what terms it is being shown?

Mr. LUNN

The film to which the hon. Member refers was produced by Lieut.-Colonel V. A. Haddick. The Empire Marketing Board had no hand in its production. It illustrates one of a number of lectures which have been approved by the Board for inclusion in their programme for the current session.

Major ROSS

Can the hon. Gentleman say why this film contains no reference whatever to the most important industrial area in Ireland, that is to say, Northern Ireland?

Mr. LUNN

It may be that there is going to be another film which might bring in Northern Ireland.

Major ROSS

While thanking the hon. Gentleman for his reply, may I ask whether the title of the film could not be altered to a more appropriate one? Surely, the destinies of the Irish Free State are sufficiently rough-hewn?
