HC Deb 10 December 1929 vol 233 c243
63. Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOX

asked the Secretary of State for War whether there has lately been complaint in the War Office of inadequate lavatory accommodation; whether the accommodation has been increased; and, if so, at what cost to the Exchequer?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Shinwell)

Yes, Sir; and this has been remedied at an approximate cost of £146.

Sir A. KNOX

Is this increased accommodation solely for the highest ranks at the War Office; and will similar accommodation be provided for other ranks?

Mr. SHINWELL

If the existing accommodation is found to be inadequate for the other ranks, we will remedy it.

Mr. J. JONES

Before the question is finally disposed of, may I ask the hon. Gentleman whether he is aware that this accommodation is provided for the use of the Secretary himself?

Sir F. HALL

Is it generally known as "Uncle Tom's Cabin?"
