HC Deb 30 April 1929 vol 227 c1387
51. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Under Secretary of State for the Home Department as representing the First Commissioner of Works if he is aware that the extra remuneration recently granted to scaffolders engaged in erecting the high scaffolding at the Palace of Westminster has been stopped for 14 days; and if he will state the reasons why the payment has been withheld?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for HOME DEPARTMENT (Lieut.-Colonel Sir Vivian Henderson)

I am not aware that the agreed extra remuneration has been withheld from the scaffolders. After the scaffold for the Central Tower was completed, the scaffolders were employed for a fortnight on ordinary scaffold work up the face of the building, in respect of which the extra remuneration is not payable.
