HC Deb 22 April 1929 vol 227 c600
7. Mr. KELLY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India what steps have been taken to implement the Viceroy's announcement on the 28th January last that an officer of the Indian Civil Service would be deputed to Kenya to represent the views of the Government of India on the Report of the Hilton Young Commission?

Earl WINTERTON

My Noble Friend has been in communication with the Viceroy for some time past, and an announcement may be expected very shortly.

Mr. KELLY

Is the announcement likely to be made within the next few days, because we can only speak of "a few days" now with regard to this Parliament?

Earl WINTERTON

I hope it will be possible to make the announcement in the course of this week.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Will this officer of the Indian Civil Service get out to Kenya in time to meet the permanent Under-Secretary who is there?

Earl WINTERTON

The right hon. Gentleman cannot have heard my answer that no announcement is possible at present.
