HC Deb 18 April 1929 vol 227 cc400-1
63. Miss LEE

asked the Minister of Labour the number of women in insured trades between the ages of 21 years and 30 years earning less than £1 and £2 per week, respectively; and the number of women in the same age group at present unemployed?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Betterton)

As regards the first part of the question, I regret that statistics are not available which would give the information desired. As regards the second part, there has been no analysis by age group more recent than 28th January last, but on the basis of that analysis it may be estimated approximately that 77,000 out of the total of 197,264 insured women recorded as unemployed on 25th March were between the ages of 21 and 30.

Mr. ERNEST BROWN

Has the hon. Gentleman any information whether there are any women in that group earning less than £1 a week?

Mr. BETTERTON

No, Sir, I have no information.
