HC Deb 18 April 1929 vol 227 c416
74. Mr. HORE-BELISHA

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether in those naval establishments where pensioners are employed preference is given to those who have received decorations or who have otherwise distinguished themselves in the service?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Lieut.-Colonel Headlam)

The answer is in the negative.

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Will the hon. and gallant Gentleman consider when engaging these men in future if their pension is low enough to justify their being employed, giving preference to those who have done the most worthy service?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

Naturally.

Mr. ALBERY

Will the hon. and gallant Gentleman also bear in mind that during the War many decorations were awarded to men as representatives of their comrades on account of collective actions?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

All considerations are borne in mind.
