HC Deb 18 April 1929 vol 227 c383
49. Mr. VIANT

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been directed to the omnibus accident which occurred in Shirland Road, Paddington, on the 9th April, in which some 50 persons were injured, nine seriously; and if he has decided to hold an inquiry into this accident?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Colonel Ashley)

My power to hold inquiries into road accidents is limited to cases, occurring in the London traffic area, in which it appears to me that the nature and character of the road or road surface or a defect in design or construction of the vehicle or in the materials used in the construction of the road or the vehicle was the sole or contributory cause. From inquiries made by the Commissioner of Police, it does not appear that the accident in Shirland Road was due to any of these causes, but inquiries are still being pursued.
