HC Deb 29 November 1928 vol 223 cc584-5
30. Mr. RENNIE SMITH

asked the President of the Board of Education the number of elementary school children who are attending school between the ages of 14 and 15; and if he can indicate the school authorities concerned?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Lord Eustace Percy)

On 31st March, 1923, there were 159,052 pupils between the ages of 14 and 15 on the registers of public elementary schools in England and Wales. Particulars of the number on 31st March, 1927, in the area of each Authority were published by the Board in List 45, a copy of which I am sending to the hon. Member.

Mr. SHEPHERD

Is the proportion greater in rural or in town areas?

Lord E. PERCY

The hon. Member has only to look at list No. 46, and he will see for each area.
