HC Deb 26 November 1928 vol 223 c44
53. Mr. RENNIE SMITH

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the dates when the last communications were sent to the Dominions on the subject of the new Anglo-American Arbitration Treaty; and which Dominions have sent in their replies?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

I do not think that there can be any advantage in giving dates or details in regard to a correspondence which is still proceeding.

Mr. SMITH

As these discussions have been going on now for eight or nine months, cannot the right hon. Gentleman give us some information as to when the negotiations are likely to fructify?

Mr. LOCKER-LAMPSON

I cannot give any answer as to the date. As I said the other day, we are doing our best to expedite the matter, and quite a short time ago we sent a telegram asking the Dominions to expedite their replies.
