HC Deb 21 November 1928 vol 222 c1726
51. Mr. ERSKINE

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that recent mails for Kenya Colony have been diverted via Bombay, thereby causing much inconvenience in East Africa; and will he inquire into the matter and ascertain the reason for this diversion?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Sir William Mitchell-Thomson)

The mails for Kenya Colony to which my hon. Friend refers were over-carried to Bombay through a mistake on the part of the steamship company concerned. The matter has already been the subject of full inquiry; and I trust that the steps which have been taken will prevent any similar occurrence in future.

Sir R. HAMILTON

Is there any penalty required from the steamship company in such a case?

Sir W. MITCHELL-THOMSON

I should require notice of that question.
