HC Deb 13 November 1928 vol 222 c692
50. Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Treasury is supporting a proposal in the League of Nations Financial Committee for implementing the Genoa resolution for summoning a conference of central banks, with a view to economise gold and stabilise the general price level?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The hon. Member is under n misapprehension since no proposal of this kind has been made by the Financial Committee of the League of Nations. The position is that the Council of the League has requested the Financial Committee to consider to what extent and in what way the League of Nations could most usefully assist in the study and solution of the problem of undue fluctuations in the purchasing power of gold.
