HC Deb 12 November 1928 vol 222 c487
39. Mr. ALFRED WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of cases of foot-and-mouth disease which have occurred since 1st August; and whether any fresh sources of origin have been discovered.

Mr. GUINNESS

Twenty-three outbreaks have been confirmed since 1st August,1928, involving eight new centres. No fresh sources of origin have been discovered.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Is the right. hon. Gentleman satisfied with the progress made in tracing the origin of this outbreak?

Mr. GUINNESS

We have done everything in our power to trace the origin, but, as my hon. Friend knows, that is a subject upon which scientific people have not been able to throw very much light.

Major COLFOX

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether there has been any outbreak of this kind in the autumn within the last few years?

Mr. GUINNESS

I will let my hon. and gallant Friend know.
