asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the Report has been received from the committee appointed by the Governor-General in Council to consider the matter of production and exhibition of cinematograph films; and whether any representations to the Government of India have been made by the home Government that legislation le passed in India on the same lines as that contained in the Cinematograph Films Act of 1927?


In accordance with the undertaking given to the hon. Member on the 30th July a copy of this Report was placed in the Library of the House in August last. My Noble Friend has not yet received the conclusions of the Government of India on the recommendations made. The Government of India were supplied with a copy of the Cinematograph Films Act, 1927, and the Act is referred to in the Report.


Are any communications passing between the home Government and the Government of India as to the action that will be taken on the Report?


The Government of India will no doubt notify my Noble Friend of the conclusions which they have reached on the Report.
