HC Deb 12 November 1928 vol 222 cc470-1
15. Viscount SANDON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any steps will be taken to erect saw-mills in British Honduras for mahogany, in order to divert that proportion of such exports which reach Great Britain via the United States and to enable such wealth to be kept in the Empire?

Mr. AMERY

A saw-mill for mahogany is already operating in Belize, and its output is shipped direct to the London market. I have no doubt that the economic possibilities of adding to the existing plant are engaging the attention of the private interests concerned.
